With the Dow Jones Industrial Average steadily dropping and our country’s economic problems getting worse by the day, it’s no wonder that people are having trouble sleeping. And when you add on the additional worries associated with people’s 401k’s becomming 101k’s and high interest credit card debt, it’s a wonder people are sleeping at all!
But there are ways you can get control of your debt, and hopefully relieve some of the stress that you are currently feeling. Here are some easy to follow tips to help you break out of the debt cycle so you can start sleeping a little more soundly.
Figure Out Where You Are At
The very first thing you want to do is to write down all of your current debts on a single piece of paper. Put the creditor’s name and the amount owed for each loan, credit card, etc that you currently have. This will help you to analyze just how much debt you currently have and provide a starting place to creating a plan to pay off your debt.
Attack Your Debt
Now that you know how much debt you owe, rewrite your list with the highest interest item listed first. This is the debt you are going to work on paying off first. After you have paid the minimum amount for each debt each month, take whatever you can afford and apply a second payment to the highest interest debt you owe. Once you’ve paid off the first debt, apply what you would normally have paid to the first debt to the second on the list. If you continue paying off your debts one at a time in this fashion, you’ll be debt free in no time. Plus the psychological affects of paying off your debt in this fashion will help you to not only relieve stress, but also to start sleeping better.
Stop Worrying About It
I know this is hard advice to follow, but if you allow the debt you owe to consume your life, it can destroy your relationships with your friends and family. Following the plan in the second part of this article will help you to pay off your debt. If you are paying off your debts in this way, then stop worrying about it. You will eventually be debt free. As for the economy of the nation, there is very little that you as an individual can do to directly affect the economy unless you have access to billionaire investers who are willing to give you their money. In other words, there’s nothing you can do about it, so stop worrying yourself to death about it.
Develop a Secondary Income
There are tons of different things you can do to create a secondary income to help you relieve your stress about paying off your debt. You can get a part time second job, start your own home business, or sell things flea markets. There are literally thousands of opportunities to create an additional income stream if you are interested in doing so. Spend some time thinking about it, and then investigate any opportunity you are considering throughly prior to starting.
Hopefully this has given you some ideas of what you can do to help you pay off your bills and end the horrible cycle of debt, stress, and worry.
